Teacher Sharon

SHARON CHANG has been a musician her entire life. She began studying classical piano when she was five years old and continued those lessons for thirteen years. She also studied classical flute for five years and during college studied voice and theShakuhachi, a traditional Japanese flute. In 2000, Sharon graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles cum laude with a B.A. in Ethnomusicology (world music) and a B.A. in American Literature. Following graduation, she moved to Seattle where she began teaching and coordinating music classes for Gymboree Play & Music franchises in the greater Seattle area. The very first time she sang to a class of children and saw their faces light up, she knew she had found her true calling. In 2003 she became a licensed Kindermusik educator and established her own alternative school of early music & movement - Rising Song L.L.C. Sharon is also a member of the Early Chilhood Music & Movement Association and is currently working to obtain an M.A. in Human Development with an Early Childhood Education specialization from Pacific Oaks College.

Sharon has always believed her early introduction to music made her a stronger, more confident, self-expressive person and musician. Because of this she is passionately devoted to using music as a tool for helping children discover themselves and the world around them. She is sommitted to music education that is multicultural, socially aware, child oriented and parent-inclusive. Her classes are not performance-oriented. She teaches to develop the whole child in an environment that is fun and natural, inspiring self-discovery, self-confidence and an ever-growing desire for knowledge.
